What is beContent?
The beContent Pelvic Floor Toning System is designed to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscle to help with the control of some types of incontinence and to prevent stress incontinence.
It can also be used as part of an overall fitness programme, as an enhancement to your sexual pleasure or as preparation for pregnancy.
If you do not have problems with incontinence, the beContent Pelvic Floor Toning System will still be useful to you as a preventative measure against incontinence and allow you to continue your lifestyle without interference from this treatable condition.
What is the Pelvic Floor and Why Should I Strengthen it?
The pelvic floor consists of layers of muscle and fibrous tissue that are attached inside the pelvic bones and form a supportive sling underneath the pelvis.
Because they are internal muscles, many women are not aware of them or the important job they do.
The pelvic floor muscles help to support the bladder, womb and bowel. They allow us to have control over our bladder and bowel and protect against stress incontinence, urge incontinence, prolapse and bowel problems.
Healthy pelvic floor muscles can also enhance sexual pleasure.
These muscles often become weak during pregnancy and following childbirth but women who have never had any children may also experience problems.
Heavy lifting, being overweight, chronic constipation, hormonal changes (especially during the menopause), having a chronic cough, and even just getting older all have an impact on the health of the pelvic floor muscles.
What does the beContent System Consist of?
Your beContent Pelvic Floor Toning System is primarily three toners ranging from small (the heaviest) to large (the lightest) and an indicator clip.
How Do I Use the beContent Pelvic Toning System?
Before using the beContent Pelvic Floor Toning System, you should wash them in warm, soapy water and pat dry using a lint-free cloth.
If you have never exercised the pelvic floor muscles before, it is advisable that you can perform the correct action first.
- Remove any tight underwear or clothing. Take the large, pale lilac toner with the indictor clip attached. Whilst lying down on the bed or floor, insert the toner into the vagina (like you would with a tampon) until the bobble is just touching the outer skin of the vulva.
- Tighten the muscles as if you were trying to stop the flow of urine. If you are tightening the correct muscles, the tip of the 'tail' will move downwards, away from you.
- If the tail moves upwards, you are not contracting the right muscles. If this happens, just try again until you get it right.
- Once you have established that you are performing the exercises correctly, take the heavest toner that you can retain while standing still for one minute. If you want, you can remove the indicator clip at this point.
- If the toner starts to slip out during that minute, this is the correct size and weight for you and will be your Training Toner.
- If you cannot feel the toner in position and it is still in place after five minutes, you need to progress to a smaller, heavier toner.
- If you are still having difficulties contact your GP or Practice Nurse who will be able to examine you to see why you are having problems.
Use the Training Toner once each day and build up the time you can hold it, up to 20 minutes. Once you can hold it in place for 20 minutes, try to move around whilst holding the toner in place and carry on about your day, performing normal tasks like making the bed, washing the dishes etc.
When you can do this, move to a smaller, heavier toner - you may find that you need to build up your training time again.
Eventually, you will reach a point wherein you cannot increase the time that you can hold a toner - this toner will be your Maintenance Toner.
Continue to use your Maintenance Toner regularly to keep the fitness of the pelvic floor muscles at their peak. Without exercising, the pelvic floor muscles will weaken again. Aim to continue use on a daily basis.
