How Does it Work?
Lasers are an intense beam of light which is made up of a single wavelength or colour. Skin is effectively transparent to light in the wavelength range of 600-100 nanometers (nm) but melanin-containing structures, such as hair follicles, will absorb laser energy of this wavelength. Consequently, it is possible to target the hair follicle without affecting the surrounding skin.
When this light energy is absorbed by the melanin pigment, the hair follicle heats up rapidly. The heat destroys the papilla (cells responsible for hair growth). When adequate heat is applied, the follicle is permanently disabled which means a permanent reduction of hair growth.
The Scanning x60 Laser Hair Remover sends a laser beam to the hair follicle which contains enough energy to destroy the root, but does not affect the surrounding area. This process is called photothermolysis. There are no chemicals involved, or painful needles - the ease at which you can use this product is quite amazing!

The pigment, melanin, located in the epidermis, absorbs the light energy and also limits the depth of penetration into the skin. As the Rio Scanning Laser x60 uses a wavelength of 808nm, is is suitable for skin types up to olive/brown.
