How Does The Rio IPL Hair Removal System Work?
The IPL Hair Remover sends intense light impuses directly to the hair follicle which contain the right amount of energy to destroy the root without affecting the surrounding skin. IPL treatment is able to treat a larger area than laser treatment spotting and therefore, the whole process is made much quicker.
There are three growth phases to hair: Active Growth; Degradation Phase and Resting phase. IPL treatment is at its most effective when the hair is in the active growth phase - at any one time, there is only a percentage of hair in this phase: each hair grows independently of its neighbours. Some follicles will therefore be destroyed straight away while others will be reduced to light, fine hairs or simply have their growth disabled.

Who Is The Product Suitable For?
The Rio IPL Hair Remover is suitable for fair coloured skin through to olive skin. Effective treatment occurs when the hair is darker than the surrounding skin. The best results are found on those with pale skin and dark coloured hairs.

Different power levels may be required for different area. Each area should be tested for the appropriate maximum power level.
What Else Can You Tell Me?
To prepare the skin for the IPL hair removal, you should first shave your legs - by minimising the length of the hair, you are enabling the light energy to pass straight to the hair root.- When the IPL is being used, there is a sensation of warmth passing through the skin. If the power level is set too high, though, a slight irritation may arise like that of minor sunburn. This irritation seems to affect men more than women as their body hair is generally thicker than that of a woman.
- The IPL hair remover can be used on sensitive skin as the laser treats the hair, not the skin.
- You should not notice any perceptible change to the appearance of the skin after use - there may be some localised redness to the hair follicle but if this persists after 24 hours, you need to lower the power level
- After use, do not sunbathe for at least 48 hours. Make sure any fake tans or natural tans have faded before further treatments - if skin is exposed, use a sunscreen. Avoid skin peeling treatments or abrasive exfoliators. Avoid swimming in chlorinated water for 48 hours after use - the chlorine can cause skin irritation.
- To treat all hairs in the Active Growth phase, the unit should be used for a minimum of six times in six months. After that, a quick treatment every month or so should be enough to ensure that disabled hairs remain dormant and maintain hair-free skin.
