Have You Heard About The AthenaFem?

dr chris steele and athenafem
We're not the only ones who think the AthenaFem is superb - this fantastic pelvic muscle trainer has been featured to critical acclaim in the national press and many glossy magazines.

We also saw the AthenaFem featured on ITV's This Morning programme - Click on the video below to hear what resident doctor, Chris Steele had to say about it.

Where once you might have wondered if you were performing kegel exercises correctly, now you can relax as the AthenaFem does all the work for you. All you have to do is put your feet up and relax!

What Else Do I Need To Know?

athena fem

The AthenaFem is specifically designed to treat all types of urinary incontinence: stress, urge and mixed. There are two components to this product: the wireless control unit and the wireless trainer.

The Cordless Controller

This compact unit has a default setting of 15 minutes after which it turns itself off - that way, you don't need to worry that you are over-exercising the pelvic floor.

  • On/off switches: If, at any point during the exercise routine you need to terminate the programme, simply turn the unit off.
  • Intensity Regulator: Turn the dial up or down to adjust intensity
  • Incontinence Mode Switch:For stress incontinence, the unit strengthens and tones the pelvic floor muscles. With a flick of the switch, the unit will treat urge incontinence by relaxing the involuntary muscle contractions. To treat mixed incontinence one should alternate the settings

The Training Device

athenafem probe trainerThe small ergonomically designed trainer is easy to insert and remove and is a handy, compact size. Being wireless, you have freedom of movement

Embedded into the trainer are two stainless steel electrodes. These emit the electrical impulses which will ennervate the appropriate muscles.

Wondering How to Use Your AthenaFem Pelvic Trainer?

We have two excellent, instructional videos for you to watch here. The first is a step-by-step guide to using the AthenaFem, what the different controls do, how to get the best from the device; and the second is more of a Frequently Asked Questions video...

I have had problems for 13 years since a really bad birth of my first child where they damaged my bladder. I have had tablets and hospital tests and nothing has sorted it and I resigned myself to living with pads all my life. I started using Athena in December and hadn't really noticed any difference until I changed the frequency an within 2 weeks I have had massive change that I'm not wearing pads hardly at all!!!! I'm absolutely delighted and feel like a woman again, not having to worry about every thing I do or if I smell of wee!! Thank you Peak Nutrition!!!

I phoned Peak Nutrition and spoke to a very professional Male who I felt totally at ease with too explain my personal problem. He recommended Athena Fem which I ordered immediately and it arrived the very next day. I am absolutely thrilled with my Athena Fem; I have already experienced a sort of freedom from being at last able to go on a Bus!!!! I also have started too managed at least 3 to 4 hours of not needing to dash to the Loo. I can't thank Peak Nutrition’s enough, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase I feel so much more happy and relaxed, having had a much better sleep at night with far fewer trips to the Loo.
I now know I can look forward to a much brighter, happier future and go away on holiday with no fears or embarrassment of disgracing myself.

I have been using my Athena for 10 days and already I am seeing good results. Having tried various pelvic floor exercisers, and found it difficult to keep up the regime, this is the first one that needs no effort but you can feel the contractions and know it is working..I feel it is a little expensive, but it is worth every penny as it REALLY works

it works!

from the age of 35 I noticed if I ran I would leak uncontrollably. This progressed to feeling small dribbles when doing nothing exertional especially towards the end of my cycle. I then had my first child at the age of 40, things became much worse and I have worn Tena pads ever since. I was terrified that I would be like my mother who would spontaneously wee herself and smell of urine most of the time. I received my athena about a month ago having read the reviews. I have used it as advised and it is generally straight forward although i would say that i feel nothing when I am using it - I am definitely seeing results. I have stopped wearing a pad at night. the ones during the day are thinner and sometime not wet at all. Also my urine stream rather than being a bit of a spray is back to the tight jet that i remember in my twenties. I know that I have still some way to go, however I am so impressed that i wanted to let other women know as i never got the suggestion from any of the professionals I saw including an incontinence nurse/ physiotherapist/GP/ and gynaecologist. I did the Kagels faithfully for 6 months using a biofeedback machine with very little improvement. There are not many reviews about this surprisingly, I have not written a review before but felt so strongly about this i did.

Fantastic

I have suffered with both stress/urge incontinence for years, and after taking my dog out for a walk on a cold and windy day I realised that I just HAD to do something as this condition was ruining my life. I carefully researched all pelvic floor toners on the internet and decided on this one. I have followed the instructions to the letter and I am truly AMAZED. I have never left a review for anything but I just had to, because this is a marvellous product. I went dancing last night, and for the first time I could dance (waltz, cha-cha, modern jive) and laugh without worrying about having to wear a 'pad' and didn't have one little accident. I will continue to use this for the rest of my life, because having the confidence to do different things has opened my life up tremendously. If you have any doubt which product to buy - BUY THIS - you will not be disappointed.

I just wanted to let you know that I am now feeling the effects of using my exerciser. It has taken a bit longer than suggested on the instructions and so I was beginning to lose heart. However I decided to keep going and have faithfully used the exerciser twice a day since the first of December. My goal was to be able to go on a weekend break to Prague with friends - something I would not have considered during the last 15 years.

The muscle exerciser itself has many advantages over classical exercises. It is simple to use and it works to contract pelvic muscles as designed so that I always receive a consistent workout regardless of when I use it or how I am feeling. Its adjustable voltage allows me to increase the intensity of contractions so that as my muscle strength improves I receive a greater benefit with each use. I am positive that other women will benefit from the use of this device. I know that my muscle exerciser is safe and effective. I would not be willing to part with it because I have had such a positive experience with it!

Since the beginning of my participation in the study, I have seen amazing results from the Pelvic Muscle Exerciser device. It is so easy to use and works as it was designed to do in creating a pelvic muscle contraction. When used as directed on a continued basis, I have seen the device greatly improve my muscle strength and relieve my pelvic floor disorder, in return. Now that I have experienced such remarkable results with using the Pelvic Muscle Exerciser device, I cannot and will not give it up

Ask a Question

Question: Is this safe to use during pregnancy?
Our Answer:

Hello, unless you have specifically been advised by your doctor to use a pelvic toner during pregnancy, you should NOT use the AthenaFem whilst pregnant. Many thanks

Question: I have used the Athena toner very successfully for over two years with great results. However the tonor no longer works and I assume the battery needs replacing. Is there a sealed battery apart from the three AAAs batteries?
Our Answer:

Hello Christine, there is a direct contact line for AthenaFem for any queries regarding the Athena once out of its warranty period - if you call 0800 2494 495 they should be able to help. Many thanks

Question: This toner, after reading all about it sounds excellent.
It never mentions if you have prolapse of the womb, i am assuming it would be ok. I have that problem(which is not severe) and the worry of always having to know where toilets are. Am I ok to go ahead and buy this
Thanking you Rita
Our Answer:

Hi, as every prolapse is different in severity and the individual we are not "allowed" to say any pelvic toner will help directly. However, we have feedback from well over 100 customers who have used this device with a prolapse to good effect and good results. Kind regards, Andrew

Question: Can I use the Athena until my ovulation and still get pregnant ? Can I use the Athena at a mild setting when I am pregnant?
Our Answer:

Hello, you can use the AthenaFem during ovulation, however, the use of any electrical pelvic toner during pregnancy is NOT recommended. Many thanks

Question: What is a VAT free form. What are the questions and how am I able to purchase this machine without paying VAT?
Our Answer:

Hello, the VAT form is a simple self-certification form - if you are using the AthenaFem for stress or urge incontinence then you are entitled to purchase the product without paying VAT. Simply opt for the VAT free verison, and the form will be included with the delivery. Many thanks

Question: I had a medical condition 3 years which as left a lot of my body muscles very weak, this has also affected my bladder control. Do you think that this AthenaFem will help me? As a lot of items specify do not help due to medical reasons.
Our Answer:

Hello, the AthenaFem uses electrical stimulation of the muscles n the plevic floor, to help improve muscle tone throughout that area. This can be particularly beneficial where it is not possible or easy to exercise the muscles yourself. Whilst we cannot advise on specific medical use, and would always advise that you consult your doctor or consultant for their advice, the AthenaFem is extremely helpful in building up bladder control through the pelvic floor muscles groups. Many thanks

Question: a) Why cant i use Athena whilst i am pregnant?
b) Can i use the Athena untul my ovulation period and still get pregnant?
Our Answer:

Hello, the Athena should not be used whilst pregnant as you should only perform manual pelvic floor exercises whilst pregnant.
It is fine to use during ovulation and will not in any way affect your ability to get pregnant. Many thanks

Question: Would it work with a ring that I have inserted for a prolapse?
Our Answer:

Hello, if you ahve a prolapse, and have any device inserted for retaining the prolapse, then you would need to seek the advice of your doctor prior to using the AthenaFem. However, from customer feedback, we know that it has been effective for women with prolapses. Many thanks

Question: I have suffered for some time with a posterior vaginal prolapse. This causes problems when I have to do a bowel evacuation needing pressure against the vaginal wall in order to empty the bowel. Would Athenafem be of any help to me as I do not want surgery?
Our Answer:

Hello, whilst the AthenaFem may be able to help with a prolapse by strengthening the muscles in the pelvic floor, however, with any prolapse we do recommend that you speak to your doctor or medical advisor prior to starting treatment. Many thanks

Question: I had my womb removed two years ago, can I use device ?
Our Answer:

Hello, whilst we know of no specific reason why the AthenaFem should not be used in your case, due to the nature of your surgery we would advise that you speak to your doctor or health care professional before using the AthenaFem. Many thanks

Question: What size is the trainer? How does it compare sizewise to tampax tampons (ie mini, normal maxi etc)?
Our Answer:

Hello, it is slightly larger than a (new) Maxi size tampon - about the same size as a luxury lipstick container. It is ergonomically designed, so does fit very easily. Many thanks

Question: i already have bladder problems which are sporadic , sometimes worse than others. i have had this problem for maybe four years, would one of your products be of use, or after such a long time (ie four years) would i benefit at all?

with many thanks
Our Answer:

Hello, yes, a pelvic toner such as the AthenaFem can help with bladder problems that go back even over a number of years. The AthenaFem helps tone up the muscles in the pelvic floor area - as with any other muscle group that has not been toned in a long time, it may take a little longer to see the desired results but the muscle tone will be improved, and this will in turn help you with your long-term bladder problems. Many thanks

Question: I recently bought the athena fem,i found at first i had to use around setting 15 to feel anything, now i feel a strong contraction sensation at setting 8.Is this normal? Also i seem to get more of a contraction sensation at the back passage more so than the front(my problem is stress incontinence since the birth of my 2 children),is this normal or should it be more at the vagina.Just want to make sure it's working the right muscle.Thanks.
Our Answer:

Hello, the AthenaFem automatically exercises the pelvic floor muscle groups, and you will find that as your muscle tone improves so does sensitivity, so you will find that you experience more at lower levels. Many thanks

Question: Can this be used while a pessary is in place?
Our Answer:

Hello, the manufacturers advise that any pessary be removed prior to using the AthenaFem. Many thanks

Question: Hi, I just want to know what the difference between the two athenfem products is? one is £170 and the other £204???
Thanks, Kathryn
Our Answer:

Hi, one is VAT inclusive and one is for VAT EXEMPT - I capitalise the word "exempt" because if you suffer from any sort of stress, urge or mixed incontinence you can claim the VAT Exempt version. This is a simple form that we send along with the goods and you simply sign it and send it back to us for our records. If you only want the toner for personal "sexual" reasons, eg helping improve vaginal embrace for improved feeling during intercourse, then you should purchase the VAT inclusive version. The VAT Exempt version is for people who suffer from a medical condition such as stress or urge incontinence where you feel like you need to go to the toilet all the time or you leak a little when laughing, sneezing etc.

Hope this helps. Thanks

Question: I have used my Toner whilst I had an urinery infection. This was due to my Dr not telling me I could not use it. How can I clean it thoroughly without damaging the device but also ensuring I am not going to re-infect myself.
Our Answer:

Hello, we would recommend thoroughly cleaning the AthenaFem with a product such as the Hygienic Pelvic Toner Intimate Product Cleaner, which cleans and prepares your pelvic toner (or any intimate product). A link is given below:
http://www.peak-nutrition.co.uk/womens_health/pelvic_toning/hygienic_pelvic_toner_intimate_product_cleaner.htm
Many thanks

Question: I have trouble retaining tampons (even large ones) would the probe be likely to slip out?
Our Answer:

The recommended position for using the AthenaFem is lying down, leaning slightly forward, so if used in this position and not using too much lubricant the trainer should not slip out. With use, you will also find that the AthenaFem will help tighten the vaginal embrace, and so should help you be able to keep tampons in, too! Many thanks

Question: if i purchase the athena is there any chance i can pay a certain amount a month?
Our Answer:

I am sorry, we don't currently offer credit facilities. You can, of course, pay us monthly over say 6 months and we will ship the unit to you once you have paid the amount in full. Kind regards

Question: i am having problems with my sex life, my partner or my myself cant feel anything through sexual intercourse. will the ahena help me ?
Our Answer:

Without a doubt, yes, if your problem is pelvic floor strength. If you cannot grip your partner then you do need to improve your pelvic floor. We have other products for pelvic floor workouts of course that are quite a lot cheaper.

Question: i've been suffering from incontinence since my last child 5 years ago. i only now just found out about the athena and i'm very excited about all i heard about it. Only just yesterday l found out i'm pregnant (about 2 weeks) can i still use the athena? i don't think i can go 9 months pregnant with incontinence. Please advise. thank you.
Our Answer:

Hi, as you are pregnant we are going to have to ask you to discuss this with your healthcare professional first as for legal reasons we cannot offer an opinion. Sorry, I know this is not what you want to hear! Kind regards

Question: Is it necessary to consult a doctor to be able to understand how to use this piece of equipment effectively ?
Our Answer:

Not at all no unless you have a pre-existing medical condition like a prolapse then you should of course. However, in regards to how to UNDERSTAND how to use the AthenaFem, no - a Dr is not required - the instructions and DVD are quite easy to follow. Many thanks

Question: Hi , I live in Argentina and I would like to know:
How much the postage would be to Argentina?
How long would it take to arrive?
Can I claim the VAT back because it goes outside of the EU?
And if there is any fault wit the unit how does the warranty works?

Kind Regards
Our Answer:

Sorry, right now we do not ship to Argentina, sorry. We ship to a few countries outside the EU including USA and Canada but we have not set up for Argentina yet. Thanks

Question: i am in ireland what is the cost and postage
Our Answer:

Hi. Cost is £205.85 for vat inclusive version. If you choose VAT Exempt version the VAT is refunded once you return the form so the actual cost is £179.00
Shipping to Ireland is via Royal Mail AirSure which is a 3 day service and costs £14.50. Remember you get a free facial massager too worth £15.00. Thanks

Question: I have just bought this product I inserted the trainer but its just keeps falling out all the time
Our Answer:

Hi, try lying on your back at first - it can take some getting used to - don't use too much lubricant and try and relax - it could well be your body is squeezing it out with muscle contractions? However, first go, try lying on your back - if you have any further trouble please let us know. Kind regards

Question: Does the VAT claim form have to be signed by my GP
Our Answer:

Not at all, no - you are self-certifying the form. Just fill in the box with say "Stress incontinence" for example, sign it, date it and return to us. Thanks

Question: Before I buy this item i have to know if it does tighten up your your vagina to make sex more pleasurebale
Our Answer:

Yes, that is a very pleasant effect of using pelvic toners and the AthenaFem is particularly good at it! Thanks

Question: I have a prolapse which is mainly due to an enlarged uterus full of fibroid tissue. Would the athenafem make the fibrosis worse, or even help? I believe it would help with the prolapse problem, but do not want to make the fibrosis worse in doing so. Many thanks.
Our Answer:

We could only suggest you discuss with your doctor first I'm afraid as each medical situation is unique and different. Sorry we can't be more specific. Best regards

Question: My dr. has diagnosed a mild front prolapse and has prescribed Kegal exersise. I did ask if cones would help and she said they were worth a try. I didn't know about the Athena -or similar - so I didn't specifically ask her. If she was happy the prolapse wouldn't affect the cones, would it be reasonable to believe the same would apply to the electrical devices?
Our Answer:

Maybe, it's probably best to call them and ask her to call you back and discuss over the phone - save a visit. We do know that many women with prolapses use the AthenaFem or similar.

Question: Hi
I have had 4 children and can feel that my vagina is not as tight as it once was. I dont have a problem with incontenance..yet! Could you tell me whether this product would or could help with tightening my vagina for sexual pleasure.
Thanks
Our Answer:

Oh yes, definitely so! As will the PelviTone or the manual Pelvic Toner - in fact, all the pelvic toners on our site will help. The AthenaFem one is one of the easiest to use and doesn't use any wires so it's quite convenient too. However, the PelviTone one has the most pre-set programmes and is totally configurable to your exact use - not one for the techno-phobes though! Thanks

Question: Hi there, I want to buy this product to improve my sex life as ive become loose and my boyfriend claims he cannot feel anything, ive never had children and it is really getting me down. I have never done pelvic floor exercising. It is really making me self consious and spoiling my sex life. I did buy the Femotone product but dont have time to sit there with a wire hanging out for all to see, wireless would be better as it is discret. Could I use at work as im in a sit down job? Will this help and can you use it when you are on your period? Thanks
Our Answer:

Hi, if you've never had children it's quite surprising that you feel you are loose. Can you I suggest you talk to a female GP and ask her for an examination to get her opinion? It may well be that there is nothing wrong with you at all and it could well be simply a perception by your boyfriend? Or maybe he has sensitivity or size issues? In regards to your question about the AthenaFem - it is still not suitable for use sitting down at work - it would probably want to try and slip out when you moved. The AthenaFem could be used say in a bathroom at work for 20 minutes or during lunch hour in the car - but you really do need to keep still most of the time.

Personally, I would talk to a Dr to get their opinion.

Question: With reference to VAT. I have suffered from stress incontinence for years now but have never been to the doctors. Does this mean that I have to pay VAT.
Our Answer:

No, not at all. You can select the VAT Exempt version and a self-declaration form will be sent with your order - you can then fill it in and return it to us by fax or post for a VAT refund. Many thanks

Question: can you explain more about why it is necessary to engage the help of a doctor prior to using the PMT device?
Our Answer:

Hi, if you have suffered a prolapse, or are suffering from a medical condition, or are pregnant or have just given birth you should consult with a health care professional. For example, you maybe pregnant and not know it and you shouldn't use any pelvic exerciser without consultation if you are pregnant. You may have a vaginal infection also. There are many reasons really why it is normally advisable to discuss with a GP before using a pelvic exerciser. However, if you know you are not pregnant and you are in good health and you have not just given birth most people do not bother to seek medical advice first without any detriment whatsoever. Thanks

Question: Hi, could i use the athenafem while you are pregnant, i am curranly six months, thanks..
Our Answer:

Hi, we would have to say no, not unless agreed by your health care professional in advance. Thanks

Question: How does thisproduct compare to the cleo Q, Dr Steele seems to back that product up aswell. It is confusing, as they cost quite a bit I woudn't like to make the wrong decison. How many contractions doe this machine provide in a session. The cleo provides a 1500 in a session, and the requirement is 350 to 450 daily.
Your help in this matter would be grately appreciated.
Many thanks
mrs Brook
Our Answer:

Hi, the Cleo Q is a good unit. The only reason we haven't stocked this unit is we feel it is very overpriced. The AthenaFem is only a little more and is totally wireless, unlike the Cleo Q which has a wire from the unit to the probe. Our PelviTone is a wired unit and is BETTER than the Cleo in our opinion as it has more pre-set programmes in it. So, if you were to compare one to the other I would compare the Cleo Q to the PelviTone - the PelviTone is nearly £100 cheaper, just as nice looking and has more functionality. This is why we don't stock the Cleo. I hope this has helped. Thanks

Question: as this emits a small electrical current is it safe to use whn you have a pacemaker fitted
Our Answer:

Hi, sorry it's taken 4 days to get back to you! However, I was waiting on the manufacturer to confirm that you CAN use the AthenaFem even with a pacemaker fitted. Thanks

Question: My gynaecologist notes that I have a mild prolapse of the bladder and recommends Kegel exercises. Would AthenaFem be suitable for my needs?
Our Answer:

It could well be, however you would need to discuss this with your GP or Gynecologist first.

Question: Can I use the Athenafem even though I have a coil fitted?
Our Answer:

You will need to talk to your GP or health care professional about this I am afraid. Thanks

Question: Can I move about while using the AthenaFem?
Our Answer:

Some women may be able to do this; but, in most cases, probably not. You could try wearing your underwear after it is inserted in case you do have to get up and move about. This should help keep it in place.

Question: How long will I have to use the PMT before I see results?
Our Answer:

Each individual is different. It varies with age, weight, overall health, menopause, and in many cases, the number of vaginal childbirths the woman has experienced. In the best case scenario, you will notice tightening of the pelvic muscle after about 30 days of use though some people report benefits after only 1 week.

After you have succeeded in strengthening the pelvic muscle, we suggest that you continue exercising (perhaps with a reduced schedule), for maximum effectiveness and to maintain good pelvic health. After all, you try to keep the other muscles in your body toned and taut... so don't neglect this very important one!

Question: Can new mothers who gave birth vaginally use the PMT? If so, how long after childbirth?
Our Answer:

It is highly recommended that new mothers begin pelvic floor rehabilitation as soon as possible after giving birth. You should consult with your doctor to determine when to start using the PMT.

Question: Should I physically do "Kegels" in addition to using the Athena PMT?
Our Answer:

Although it probably isn't necessary, anything you can do to be proactive and expedite the alleviation of your incontinence problem will be good news for you.

Question: How do I insert it?
Our Answer:

We recommend a prone or semi-prone (such as a recliner) position for inserting the PMT.

Question: How do I remove it?
Our Answer:

The easiest way is to use about a 14" length of sanitary dental floss. Thread it through the eyelet on the Trainer and tie at the end. Many women are able to push it out but in the beginning, always start with the clean dental floss.

Question: How can I tell if it is "ON"?
Our Answer:

You should feel a contraction of the muscles which feels like trying to suppress the urge to urinate and then letting go. If you don't feel this type of contraction, take the tip of your finger and move the PMT slightly until it finds the right place for you. Many women say they find they don't have to put it very far inside the opening but just enough to feel the eyelet at the end of the Trainer.

Question: I have a prolapsed cervix. Does this condition prohibit my use of the Pelvic Muscle Trainer?
Our Answer:

Only your physician can determine that for you since each prolapse is unique.

Question: I am allergic to some metallic materials. Will I have a reaction to the PMT?
Our Answer:

All of the physical properties of the PMT have been deemed safe by the Federal Drug Administration and we meet their standards along with the EU CE mark requirements.

Question: Can I use a vaginal lubricant while using the PMT?
Our Answer:

Yes. We recommend a water-based lubricant, but only if necessary. DO NOT use a petroleum-based jelly. You can also use a little water if you don't have lubricant.

Question: How do I clean the PMT?
Our Answer:

The PMT Trainer module is sealed and can be cleaned with warm soapy water, rinsed, dried and put back in the cradle on the controller. You can also use antiseptic wipe or with tissue or cotton balls if desired.

The Wireless Controller module should be kept dry at all times; if it requires cleaning, carefully wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Question: Can I let another person use my personal PMT?
Our Answer:

Although the trainer can be cleaned, the PMT should only be used by the person for whom it was prescribed. We do not condone letting another individual use your PMT.

Question: How can I resume my usage if I am interrupted before the 15 minutes are up and have to turn it off and take it out?
Our Answer:

Place the trainer back into the cradle on the controller to reset it. It will immediately be ready to remove and start again.

Question: Do I have to move the dial every time to the setting I like?
Our Answer:

No. At the beginning of every session, the PMT will gradually ramp up to the last used setting automatically. This process takes a few seconds.

What customers are saying...

"I have had problems for 13 years since a really bad birth of my first child where they damaged my bladder. Thank you Peak Nutrition!!!"
