DermaSilk has been shown to be significantly more effective in relieving the symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus than cotton.
Lichen Sclerosus is a recurring, chronic condition which affects the skin and mucous membranes, especially around the anus and genitals. It most commonly affects older women, and may lead to scarring and degeneration in the condition of the skin and mucosa around the genital regions. Traditonal treatment is with strong corticosteroid creams and ointments applied topically to control the condition, though there is currently no cure for the condition.
The Symptoms
The most common symptom of Lichen Sclerosus is an intense itch, which usually occurs during the night and worsens as the condition progresses. The colour of the skin fades, and becomes thin over time. A burning sensation is commonly felt, as well as pain during intercourse or whilst urinating.
The Causes
The causes of Lichen Sclerosus are unknown - though it may be hereditary as it seems to run in families. It is NOT an STD.
How Common Is Lichen Sclerosus?
Exact figures are not available, though it is suggested that 1 in 300 women suffer from it, with many more instances being mis-diagnosed as candida. Most commonly found in older women, it can also affect children and adult males.

Symptoms Reduced Within 1 Month
A recent 6 month study of 42 women suffering from long-standing, chronic Lichen Sclerosus was conducted to show the effects of DermaSilk underwear in comparison to cotton briefs. All patients were given a strong topical steroid cream for daily use.
Half of the patients were given DermaSilk underwear, and the other half were given standard cotton briefs - neither the patients nor their clinicians were told which briefs were given.
Results
Within the first month of the study, symptoms such as itching, burning, dryness and painful intercourse were markedly reduced in the DermaSilk group in comparison with the group wearing traditional cotton briefs. By the end of the 6 month study, improvements were signficantly greater for those wearing DermaSilk than for the cotton group, in many cases leading to the complete disappearance of the symptoms.
The researchers concluded that DermaSilk was significantly more effective than cotton in relieving the syomptoms of Licen Sclerosus: "Perhaps, most importantly, all patients decided that they wanted to continue using DermaSilk, even after the observation period was complete."
